Art

Head of Department: Mrs Stephanie Warley

Curriculum Intent

Engage, inspire and challenge pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of Art, craft and design. As pupils progress, they will be able to think creatively and develop a more rigorous understanding of Art and Design. They will learn how Art and Design both reflects and shapes our history and contributes to the culture and wealth of the nation.

The curriculum scaffolds learning for students through the keystages with the development of technical skills and processes alongside a strong importance placed on contextual studies.  Allowing for a wealth of experience within different disciplines of Art, craft and Design, linking to future career opportunities and a lifelong appreciation of the visual Arts. Students are challenged with practical and contextual work that encourages them to think independently and make decisions and build their skills in the 4 core skills enabling smooth transition between keystages. Throughout each project students become adept at developing ideas, experimenting with materials, refining techniques, recording through visual or written form and presenting outcomes of value.
