Year 8’s Win Oakham 10’s

King's Year 8's win Oakham 10's Invitational Tournament

King’s Year 8’s Win Oakham 10’s Invitational Tournament - Saturday 6 October

King’s U-13 team travelled to Oakham School on Saturday to take part in a round robin tournament. The competition was fierce, with some of the top rugby playing schools in the East Midlands being represented. King’s started off with a comfortable 40-0 win against a physical Oundle team. They then followed this up with excellent all-around performances and wins against the hosts Oakham (25-0) and Aysgarth (10-0). In their final game of the tournament, King’s played some of their best rugby to defeat Witham 30-5, in a game that was much closer than the score line suggests. Rugby is often described as the ultimate team game and so it proved on this occasion. King’s retained the ball well throughout the tournament thanks to the ferocious and tireless work at the breakdown by Henry Buck, Dominic Birch and Ben Taylor. Strong and determined carries by Freddie Booth, Noah Marshall and Monty Weaver ensured that King’s were always playing on the front foot. Alex Dickinson and Ethan Blackmore marshalled the team expertly from the half back positions with imagination and authority. All of this allowed outside backs Jack Hall, Archie Tagg, Sam Morgan and Cisco Ruiz to finish off King’s attacking moves in style. Joshua Brahoua also finished as the tournament’s top try scorer with 13 tries.

In other fixtures this week, King’s Year 8 and Year 9 teams were both victorious in fixtures against Carre’s Grammar School.
