  • Year 10 Parents Evening - 10 December 2020

    Dear Parents and Carers,

    Year 10 Parents’ Evening – Thursday 10 December 2020

I would like to invite you to the Year 10 Parents’ Evening to be held on Thursday 10 December between 4:15pm and 7:15pm, as per the school calendar. Unfortunately, due to Covid-19 restrictions we will not be able to host the event on site this year and will instead be running a virtual evening with all appointments run as video appointments.

Appointments can be booked using the Parents’ Evening System at https://kingsgrantham.schoolcloud.co.uk/ The company that produces the software have recently added the facility of video appointments so hopefully this will provide flexibility for parents in addition to preventing large numbers of parents visiting the school site during the pandemic.

Online booking will open for parents at 8:00pm on Friday 4 December.  In order to access the meetings please use a compatible web browser (Safari, Chrome, Microsoft Edge or Firefox).  Please note that it is not possible to access the meetings via Internet Explorer. Where possible, students are expected to attend the evening and sit alongside their parents so they can take an active part in discussions.

Appointments are available on a first come, first served basis and we strongly advise that parents book early to avoid disappointment.  If your son has more than one Subject Tutor you will be able to book appointments with the member of staff that teaches him for the majority of lessons.  I shall also be available for appointments on the evening.  I politely ask that appointments are only made if there is something that you or your son would like to discuss with me.  Hopefully, this will allow all parents wishing to book an appointment to be seen.

We would also be grateful if parents would complete the annual parent questionnaire at https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=JZ4f1tn1n0Gx4tZHC1lEdm9ysxan-R9Eqce5UXDKVOBUQ0VRN1Q5VFQ1UjQyTlZXTENKSDZMQzIwVSQlQCN0PWcu

    Kind regards

    Mr G Collins

    Head of Year 10

  • Sixth Form Options Evening And Year 11 Mock Exams

    Dear Parents and Carers,

    SIXTH FORM OPTIONS EVENING

Due to Covid-19 restrictions we are unable to host our usual Sixth Form Options Evening for students and parents.  Mr Whales (Assistant Headteacher & Head of Sixth Form) will therefore be delivering an assembly to Year 11 students on Friday 11 December to explain the options process and life in the King’s School Sixth Form.  Heads of Department have also produced subject presentations and these will be available on the school website following this assembly together with the presentation from Mr Whales and application forms.

During the week beginning Monday 8 February 2020, every Year 11 pupil will have an individual meeting with a senior member of staff to discuss career aspirations and post-16 options.  Students wishing to apply for the Sixth Form will bring a completed application form along to this meeting.

    YEAR 11 MOCK EXAMINATIONS

The Year 11 Mock Examinations will take place between Monday 30 November and Monday 7 December.  There will be no study leave during Mock Examinations and pupils should attend School as normal from 8:45am and register in Form Rooms with their Tutor.  When pupils are not in examinations they will be in normal lessons.

The revision booklet attached with this letter provides information on revision strategies and content of examinations.  Heads of Department have given an overview of the requirements of each exam to enable students to prepare themselves appropriately.  Students will also receive an electronic copy of the booklet to assist them in their revision.

I have attached the timetable for the examination period and instructions to candidates published by JCQ the exams regulator.  We shall run the examinations as though they are the actual GCSEs and pupils will be made aware of how they should conduct themselves.  Any pupil who fails to behave in the correct manner will be sanctioned as follows:

    • His script will be removed and destroyed.
    • He will be required to repeat the examination in an after-school detention, lasting the full time of the examination.
    • Parents will be informed and made aware that any subsequent failure to follow the required system will result in an exclusion.

I’m sure you appreciate it is important that we run these examinations in the correct manner in order to give everyone the opportunity for success.  Results will be published to parents in term 3.

Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to wish your son my best wishes in his Mock Examinations.   If there are any questions relating to this letter that you would like to discuss in more detail please do not hesitate to contact me or Mr Hinchcliffe (Head of Year 11).

    Yours sincerely,

    Justin Dixon

    Deputy Head Master

  • COVID 19 - National Restrictions Update - 05 November 2020

    Dear Students, Parents and Carers,

Following the vote in Parliament yesterday the school received national guidance for the New National Restrictions from 05 November 2020.

The guidance means it will now be mandatory for face coverings to be worn in the communal areas of all secondary schools and colleges.  This is something we were already doing.  Can I please ask that you ensure that your son comes to school with a face covering and that it is clean.  There are a small number of students who are exempt from wearing face coverings.

It is unfortunate that the guidance allows for after-school provision for the purpose of childcare but not for after-school clubs.  This means that there will be no extra curricular activities before 08:45 or after 15:45.  We are hopeful that we can start these activities on Thursday 03 December 2020.

Thank you for your continued support.

    Simon Pickett

    Head Master

  • School Uniform

    Dear Parents and Carers,

We have recently reminded all boys about our expectations regarding uniform and we would be grateful if you could reinforce this at home.  I am delighted to report that the vast majority of students wear the uniform correctly and look smart and professional.  Unfortunately, a small number of students have had to be reminded about our expectations, particularly around jumpers and the wearing of hoodies.

Students in Year 7-11 are expected to wear the uniform as outlined on the school website: https://www.kings.lincs.sch.uk/page/?title=School+Uniform&pid=251 .

If students wish to wear a jumper then it needs to be a plain grey V-neck jumper and Year 12-13 may wear a plain grey or plain black cardigan, provided the cardigan remains buttoned up and is worn under the blazer.  Trousers should be black and jeans or cords are not permitted.  Students are not permitted to wear hoodies or trainers.  Black Nike trainers which are commonly sold as shoes by some popular sports retailers are not acceptable footwear and all students should wear black shoes.

    Thank you for your support.

    Justin Dixon
    Deputy Head Master
