More Success in Rugby
Another successful weekend of rugby
King’s hosted Mount St. Mary’s from Sheffield on Saturday and continued their fine recent form across all teams. The U12 team, captained for the first time by Charlie North, produced their best performance of the season in a 50-0 win. There were two tries on ‘A’ team debut for Will Leaning and some barnstorming carries from Sam Rawson. Mitchell Cowling, forever proving that size does not matter when it comes to rugby, put in a man of the match display, marshalling his troops well and darting through any gaps that appeared in the Mount St. Mary’s defence. The U13 team won 45-15 to finish the season undefeated, but this doesn’t come close to telling the full story of the match. King’s found themselves 10-5 down with only minutes remaining to half time. However, in times of adversity, leaders lead and Ethan Blackmore took on that mantle to rally the troops. The team took the lead just before half time and went on to convincingly win having adapted their game plan. Jack Hall was the stand out performer who carried the ball relentlessly and with great determination. The U14’s also finished their season with a flourish beating Mount St. Mary’s 66-12. Similar to the U13’s, the team had to come from behind to win. As confidence returned so did tries from Conron, Wasowski, Owen, Cradduck, Brooks, Park, Poole and Mussell crossing the whitewash whilst Taylor and Gilbert slotted the conversion. An excellent all-around display saw Harry Leaman win the Man of the Match award. Throughout the season King’s boys from Year 7-13 demonstrated all of the values rugby espouses – courage, determination and teamwork. Each team will be looking to build on these great performances next year. The U15 team had a free weekend, but will play in Round 4 of the Natwest Schools Vase on Monday.
